Catholic Home Schooling?
I am looking for a good catholic home schooling programme. My son is Swiss and we live in Zurich which means that he is, by law, required to attned school full-time. I would still like to home school English and Religious Ed though. Is this possible and can you recommend a programme? Thanks! Please read the question properly.... He will be attending school full-time. I am interested in homeschooling him in English (my mother tongue) and Rel. Ed. only. He will be socialising with other kids at school...

I agree with the others. Just send him to a Catholic school, that way he socializes and has fun with kids his age. Havent you thought how things would be like when he goes to collage. I dont think there are home schooling for collage. I went to a Catholic school...... :D

You might check out Seton - I'm not Catholic and haven't used it, but I've heard decent reviews on it. I looked at some of the lesson plans, and they seem to be both challenging and of good quality. Here's the site: http://www.setonhome.org/contact/default.php Hope that helps! Edit - they have specific courses for each grade level for English, English Lit, and Bible/Catechism/ Theology. It looks like you can order just what you need, so it may be a good match. That way, he's not required to do a full curriculum on top of his school studies.

We currently use Rosetta Stone for our secondary and tertiary languages. You can purchase these much cheaper on eBay than what you can pay for them on their website. Actually, in Zurich you are allowed to homeschool and he's not required by law to attend school full-time. That aside, how much English does he know? And how old is he? That will affect what sort of resources you can use with him. ADDED: A Beka is NOT Catholic; BJU is NOT Catholic; Sonlight is not Catholic. Seton is. You can cover every subject you want, but his English level might dictate where you start.

First of all, homeschooling is legal in Zurich. He doesn't HAVE to be subjected to government mass schooling if you don't want him to. I know Abeka is what we used to use when I was Catholic. I have since learned more of what Scripture says and given up my Catholic traditions to conform more to Scripture. We use BJU Press now and love it. But you can always try Abeka. I know they are alot friendlier on the pocket book also! LOL! Good luck!

Like others said, try Seton. I have done schooling through Seton and I must say that it is a very good program. I'm not sure if they ship all over the world, but I do know that they are on the east coast of the Unites States of America. And another little plus to using Seton-- the book pictures [cover and within the books] have BEAUTIFUL artwork. I wish you the best of luck with your Catholic Homeschooling. :-) -Faith
