I would think so, yes. It's a short-haired dog. Bernese Mountain Dogs can be very sensitive to heat, but I've not heard of climate issues with the Greater Swiss. No dogs tolerate heat as well as humans do, but I don't think you'd have to be worried particularly about a Greater Swiss. ETA: Well I was wrong. Here's what the US Breed Club states: SWISSYS AND HOT WEATHER The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog generally does not handle heat well. Care must be taken in hot weather to avoid over exposure, which may lead to heat stroke. On hot days, be sure your Swissy has plenty of shade, has the opportunity to stay out of direct sun, and has access to plenty of clean water. Most Swissys do much better inside with air conditioning when living in hot climates. Avoiding exercise during the heat of the day is extremely important. http://gsmdca.homestead.com/BreedInformation/BeginnersGuide.html It's at the bottom of the Beginner's page. Entelbucher Sennenhunds, the smallest of the Swiss Moutnain dogs, don't do very well in heat and humidity either.

Yes they can.

Jessie's edit about summed it up. While they are short haired, they have double coats. Thus, they don't tolerate heat well. BUT they are able to live in hot climates with proper care. Having them live indoors, have good amounts of water, grooming their coat, etc. all benefit the Swissy. If you're outside, make sure your dog has adequate amounts of shade and water. Be familiar with the signs of over-heating so you can assess the situation early on. I actually live in Arizona (it's hot!) and might be getting a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog. So that just proves they can!
