A Swiss would be better positioned to know but I have visited a couple of Swiss Alpine destinations: Lucerne freezing cold Mt.Pilatus and Lausanne's high-alpine village of Les Diablerets. Despite the freezing condition, I've always envied the quality of life there - it's R-E-A-L unlike the manufactured artificiality of urban living. But living in Alpine villages are definitely not for budget-conscious travellers. For description of Swiss Alpine cosiness, log on to... www.cnn.com/2007/TRAVEL/getaways/09/07/gimmelwald/index

I live in the Engadin (maybe you know it... St. Moritz is situated in the Engadin^^) and here it's quite cold in winter. (sometimes -20 degrees and even colder) Sometimes it's snowing in 5 months in a year. But in summer it can also become quite warm and you can go swimming in the lakes. And it also depends, where in the alps you live. In the higher situated regions (1800m) it's colder than here where I live (1200m)
